stonemason Jonathan Lake. We named the cottage after his daughter, Joyce
Amelia. The cottage was somewhat rundown when we purchased it in 2005,
and we did most of the improvements ourselves with TLC, largely calling
on Tim’s skills as a carpenter, cabinet maker and general handyman. The original cottage has a rear extension, with a
thoroughly-modern kitchen, large indoor entertaining area and an outdoor
barbecue dining area in a fragrant garden. Huge overall, it has two bedrooms, making it suitable for one or two couples. Amelias is not suitable for children or pets. Gift certificates are available should you wish to spoil loved ones. While we have modern luxuries such as a large two-person spa, our
improvements have an historic feel – rose cornices and ceiling roses,
brass light switches and taps, and chandeliers. Even the plants we have
chosen for the gardens are old-style, including standard and miniature
roses, miniature box and pansies. In the name of water conservation, our lawns are artificial, even
though we have two rainwater tanks which hold a combined 24,000 litres
plumbed to all parts of the cottage. Amelia's Lounge Living area Outdoor area Main bedroom/ensuite: |
