Ardmore House is a fine example of the High Italianate style of architecture ,common in Australia in the mid-late nineteenth century. Built in the 1870’s as an estate managers house for one of the original market garden estates of the colony, it has been carefully restored to its period, with marble fire-places, moulded plaster ceilings, and polished wooden floors,as well as two iron-lace balconies. It is an elegant free standing terrace house, redolent with the atmosphere of its period.

There is a beautiful semi-tropical garden in the courtyard with plants that date back 150 years. Guests are able to breakfast under the spreading eucalypts and see the native parrots feeding in season.

One of our  wrought-iron laced balconies ,overlooks the garden from guest’s bedrooms. Another feature of the house, are the many splendid leadlight panels ,in the windows. As well ,there is a remarkable collection of paintings by some of Australia’s leading artists.

This will include ,either a fully cooked breakfast ,or a continental styled one, served in our beautiful garden courtyard ,or indoors ,in our elegant dining room, dependant on the weather. An evening meal is available ,if arrangements are made in advance.

Across the street from the house, there is a neighbourhood bistro that has been in the same family for nearly 100 years.A fine luncheon and dinner maybe taken there ,seven nights a week.

We are six minutes walk from Newtown’s King Street, with its many and varied restaurants.

We also offer as an extra service for guests, a pick-up and drop off at Sydney’s airport.

We also can do a sight-seeing tour of Sydney with luncheon at one of Sydney’s landmark restaurants.

As well we have an over-night accomodation ,sight seeing tour to our country log cabin in the Australian Bush. This includes a guided tour through part of the beautiful Southern Highlands, morning tea in Mittagong, an early settlement

South of Sydney, driving down the Wollondilly Gorge, on a convict built road, dating form 1819,with spectacular scenary ,an opportunity to see an old colonial school house and shearing shed dating from the mid nineteenth century,A walk through the spectacular Wombeyan Caves, a chance to see Kangaroos, and Wallabies in their natural habitat, as well as many native Australian birds.

The next morning , after breakfast ,a trip through historic Taralga,an Australian bush town, and Goulburn, Australia’s first inland city , followed by lunch in beautiful and historic Berrima before returning to Sydney.
