Poppy's Cottage (only 5 min from Armidale) is the perfect stopover on the New England Highway between Sydney & Brisbane/Gold Coast - or the charming and peaceful holiday destination for that much needed "getaway-from-it-all" restful break. An unforgettable, warm, and friendly farmstyle Bed & Breakfast experience awaits you in this romantic and cosy atmosphere. Enjoy the history behind this settlers’ cottage which was built as a residence for gold miners at Hillgrove circa 1860, and transported by bullock team in 1901 to its present location when the farmhouse was built.

The charming historic farmhouse on 140 acre farm is home to our family of five, and menagerie of dogs, ducks, hens, geese, cattle and various other farmyard animals - and they are all very friendly! As well as enjoying time on the trampoline, children may like to help collect the eggs from the chicken house in the morning. We have two dogs and pet ducks in the garden so children have plenty of opportunity for an enjoyable farm experience. Also resident is a young cat with a most interesting personality. The garden of 2 acres is fully fenced.

Nestled in an enchanting cottage garden, our guests enjoy the comfort and privacy of their own separate cottage . Accommodation consists of 2 bedrooms with ensuite bathroom: double bed in main room, & two singles and sofa double bed in second room. A cot is also available.

The cottage is warm and snug with heating, electric blankets, fluffy doonas, and ironing utilities. There is a small refrigerator as well as tea and coffee making facilities, along with a barrel of homemade Anzac biscuits which disappear very quickly! You will find fresh flowers in the cottage, as well as extra bath towels. (All linen is provided.) After dinner treats include English Fudge, chocolate peppermints and an opened bottle of port. There is a CD system so bring along your favourite music. There is a microwave in the cottage, and television is available on request. Reading matter in the cottage is both abundant and versatile - a selection of magazines and books offering everything from Byron to "The Three Little Pigs"!

A hearty gourmet breakfast includes fresh and poached fruit, yoghurt, freshly squeezed orange juice, farm eggs and bacon, plunger coffee, Twinings Tea ... and more! During the warmer weather, you may enjoy this, at your leisure, in the garden beneath the shade of the fruit trees. Delicious 3 course dinners by candlelight (including a complimentary bottle of wine) are optional, and highly recommended.

Having enjoyed the company and hospitality of B&B's overseas, we now enjoy offering the same experience to our guests in "Poppy's Cottage", (which we have been operating since 1991).

In addition to being almost adjacent to our local vineyard with its cellar door and restaurant, our location provides a convenient base to explore historic buildings, Cathedrals, University, National Parks and Waterfalls nearby in the New England area.
